General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems Long-Range Precision Guidance Kit Demonstrates Precision at Ranges Greater Than 50 Kilometers

September 2, 2026

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems (GDOTS), a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), successfully completed a key demonstration of its Long-Range Precision Guidance Kit (LR-PGK) at Yuma Proving Ground, becoming the first U.S. guidance kit to demonstrate the ability to accurately guide 155mm cannon artillery at ranges greater than 50 kilometers. The demonstration represents a significant advancement in precision-guided artillery and validates critical performance objectives for the LR-PGK and XM1113 programs in support of the U.S. Army’s emerging requirement for long-range massed cannon fires.

The LR-PGK is designed to provide enhanced accuracy and extended operational effectiveness for 155mm artillery systems and is compatible with a range of 155mm projectiles, including the M1128 and next-generation rocket-assisted projectiles. The system is intended to extend the effective range and precision of existing and future artillery systems, including both legacy and emerging platforms.

During the demonstration, the GDOTS LR-PGK guided 155mm XM1113 Rocket Assisted Projectiles at ranges exceeding 50 kilometers while achieving accuracy performance significantly exceeding legacy guidance kit requirements. The demonstration highlights the readiness of the LR-PGK and XM1113 programs to support the performance requirements of the Army’s emerging Mobile Tactical Cannon program while also providing increased capability for the legacy 39-caliber cannon fleet.

“In addition to demonstrating precision at unprecedented ranges, this test validates the performance, maturity and growth potential of the LR-PGK,” said Michael Bate, senior vice president and general manager at GDOTS. “Our team has demonstrated that we can deliver precision guidance capability at ranges greater than 50 kilometers while maintaining the performance and reliability required for the warfighter. This achievement reflects our commitment to advancing cannon artillery capabilities and providing the U.S. Army and our allies with effective solutions for an increasingly contested battlefield.”

The LR-PGK is designed with a modular architecture that provides opportunities for continued capability growth as technology and operational requirements evolve. While focused on the immediate need for extended-range, precision fires, the system is also being developed to address increasingly challenging battlefield conditions. The LR-PGK has demonstrated resilience in laboratory and live-fire testing against operationally relevant threats, while GDOTS continues to pursue additional enhancements to further strengthen the system’s performance and adaptability.
